Ah – how nice!  A very BIG thanks to the team at Country Homes and Interiors for such a fabulous article.

A little bit of HUSH please…

September 12, 2014 in Bicycle inspiration, Bike Candy, Enjoy the ride, Press

… because we’re delighted to let you know that if you tiptoe over now to womenswear brand, hush‘s beautiful website and check out their lovely blog, you’ll find that you could soon be owner of one of our very own Betty bicycles.  hush shot their new AW14 campaign in Amsterdam so its very befitting that they are giving away one of our very classically Dutch bicycles as well as the ginormous grocers basket that goes with it.

We love hush, and not only because of those long-limbed, tawny haired, tawny eyed and tawny skinned models (oh to be ‘tawny’ in some way!)  but because of their super-relaxed, effortlessly chic style that just, well – works.  Full of versatile pieces that are as stylish as they are practical, the autumn/winter 14 range includes a wide range of gorgeous knits, feminine and flirty skirts to everday dresses, trousers, plus a brand new outerwear range – all in a rich pallet of colours. Also in the collection are the best cotton pyjamas on the market and a great collection of contemporary basics – tops, tees, tanks and leggings – which are everyday essentials in any women’s wardrobe.

We’ve firmly got our eye on that awesome khaki parker… how practical for chilly morning rides!  See the hush blog for more info…

A very Smart Turnout indeed!

April 3, 2014 in Bicycle inspiration, Press

We are delighted to announce that our Bertie bicycle has certainly earned his stripes and is making a guest appearance in the very exclusive Princes Arcade in Piccadilly, London this Spring at Smart Turnout’s beautiful flagship store.

Founded by former Scots Guards officer Philip Turner, Smart Turnout is built upon quintessentially British values and traditions.   This classic gentleman’s outfitter offers its discerning customers a collection of preppy clothing and accessories including bags, ties and watches, all based upon British styling combined with pops of colour and always a fresh twist.

Not being able to find a high quality jumper in his regimental colours, Philip set out to source materials and make his own, soon leading to orders from fellow guardsmen for jumpers, socks, ties, and other accessories. Now, the collection has grown into a fully-fledged menswear line that has gained international recognition.

Stockists include Harrods and Selfridges in London, Galleries Lafayette in Dubai as well as J Press and Bloomingdale’s in New York, and United Arrows and Beams in Japan. The store has also had pop-up shops in John Lewis and Selfridges.

2012 saw the opening of Smart Turnout’s first stand-alone store in Princes Arcade, central London, a location specifically chosen to reflect their British traditions and fashionable flair. They now draw in locals and visitors alike and cater for fashion conscious men in London.

We love the brand for the values it shares with BEG Bicycles – classic styling, a contemporary twist, and always attention to detail and fine craftsmanship. What is more, this season they have launched a bicycle-referencing range, which include socks and ties…

Furthermore, the kind folks at Smart Turnout are offering BEG Bicycles customers a very Smart offer of a 10% discount on the entire Smart Turnout collection.  Simply enter the code BIKE10 on their website in the coupon code box .  They have fabulous ideas for presents as well clothing ideas for the discerning gentleman in your life.

We’ve already got our eye on that smart little satchel with the yellow binding…!

Visit Smart Turnout to see the collection.

Bertie gets Somme-bre

January 31, 2014 in Bicycle inspiration, Press

We love sending our bicycles out for bespoke events, photo shoots and film production…. the bikes definitely get all the glamorous jobs!  We were therefore  totally intrigued to find out what Cycling Active editor, Matt Lamy had up his sleeve when he called us last summer to borrow a Bertie for a shoot.  Matt told us he had a complete first world war period military uniform lined up and the bike might get a bit muddy.

Fast forward to this month’s Cycling Active magazine, and Matt and photographer Andy Jones have produced a beautiful 12 page feature, The Great War, in which Matt retraces a WW1 soldier’s emotional journey 100 years ago from northern England across the channel to the bleak battlefields of the Somme on one of our Bertie bicycles.  Its a  poignant piece of writing and the photography is stunning.  We think (naturally) that Bertie looks very much the part, as indeed befits his continental classic origins.  Here are some of our favourite images of Matt and our Bertie on their journey…

Set off on your own epic journey with a Beg bicycles mens classic bicycle.  From £745.00.

That time of year…

December 11, 2012 in Bicycles, Press

Phew! It’s been a bit of a month… Firstly, we had to make sure that we had the Now Thats What I Call Music Christmas Classics downloaded and playing on repeat.

Then – we’ve been so busy getting lots of people’s Christmas presents ready that Bea is now known at Elf.  There are going to be some very happy cyclists who  will have a VERY large package under their tree this year…

One customer has just told us that she wasn’t ever lucky enough to get to unwrap a new bike as a child at Christmas so is SO excited about her new BEG bicycle that Father Christmas is bringing her!  Needless to say, there is a lot of covert delivering going on…

We still have most sizes, colours and models of Mens and Ladies BEG bicycles available in stock and will be delivering up until the 21st December 2012.   Get in touch soon to guarantee your delivery!

Then – we’ve had some incredible press and our bicycles and accessories have featured in The Guardian, The Sunday Times, Good Homes magazine and we’re also in Easy Living this month!

Cycling to a Harmonious Christmas!

December 11, 2012 in Bicycles, Press

No sooner has the tinsel been stashed away, the mince pie crumbs swept up and seventeen sack loads of shredded wrapping paper squished into the recycling bin, and tah-dah! Here it comes again.  Christmas is well and truly upon us once again and the countdown has begun…

Guilt for not being more organised, angst that we need to get cracking with it all and stress about who we have forgotten to invite for Christmas Day lunch is already consuming most of us.   Christmas seems to be a period for goodwill to all men  - and more likely good grief to most women!

Thankfully, simply riding your bike and making cycling a key part of your Christmas cheer can counteract the hassle, stress and colorific pile up that the festive season brings.   As is becoming a bot of a BEG Christmas tradition, we were invited once again by the very nice people at British Cycling’s Sky Rides to write their Christmas blog post for their Breeze Rides blog about cycling at Christmas.

By the way, this is a good time to say a bit more about Sky Rides.  Created by British CyclingSky Rides are a fabulous network of organised bike rides across Britain, open to all.  Read all about their fabulous regular events on their website, and for some great women-only rides, they have also created the Breeze network – all free, fun and guaranteed to get you hooked on cycling!

So, here are five good reasons how taking to two wheels during the Christmas season can free up a whole lot of time, cash and your sanity as you get ready to ding, dong merrily on high.  (You can read the whole article here).

Cycling to a Harmonious Christmas!

1.  Leave the car at home, put the online shopping to one side, get your panniers and basket on and opt to do as much of your pressie-buying as you can by bike in your local neighbourhood.  You’ll find surprisingly interesting small shops and businesses right on your doorstep that you’ve not noticed before, and in turn, you’ll feel more a part of your local community.  Not only may this help solve the annual what-on-earth to buy Uncle Alan dilemma, but you’ll also support local businesses.
2.  Cycle into town to pick up last minute turkey trimmings, and you will save so much time.  Sail on by the endless queue of purple-faced drivers, manically drumming their fingernails on the wheel with frustration as they desperately circle round in a futile attempt to find a parking spot.  Hop off your bike, lock up and straight into the shops in no time.  You’ll not only save time, but pennies on parking and petrol too, and might even be able to treat yourself for Christmas to that nice little pair of heels that you’ve had your eye on. Ho ho ho!
3.  Set up a new Christmas tradition where you and your partner, or the whole family, set aside a special festive bike ride together where you take some time out, slow dow and enjoy the simpler pleasures of the festive season; mulled wine by the fire in a cosy country pub, cycling through the woods to find holly and mistletoe and simply enjoying each other’s company.   Could be a good time (after a glass or too) to drop some hints about that perfect new bike you’ve had your eye on!
4.  Let cycling be your inspiration in choosing presents for friends and family and take advantage of the inspirational female-friendly bike shops out there (see (add link) for our list of female-friendly bike shops).  These shops are packed full of fabulous ideas – and cycling expertise.  A cool bike helmet, stylish wicker basket or shiny new bike bell will make a wonderful present for the cyclist in your life and give a lot of pleasure for years to come.
5.  And when all the hard work is done, sit there smugly during the Queens’ speech with a trim midriff and a glowing complexion to boot, when everyone else is looking comatose, bloated and blotchy from that extra glass of sherry.  Cycling is a brilliant way to shift a few pounds before the onslaught of the turkey and you’ll look and feel wonderful for Christmas 2012!

Wishing all cyclists a very happy Christmas and a wonderful new year of cycling in 2013.

A little bit of Hush, please!

September 14, 2012 in Bicycle inspiration, Bike Candy, Press, Sites we like...

Thanks to lovely Hush homeware for featuring us (or at least Catherine) on their blog and newsletter this month. We now all know where to go to get our new stylish cycling wardrobes this Autumn!   I want that super-cosy looking red outfit on the homepage in its entirety!  You can read the interview with Catherine  here on the Hush blog.

And by the way, Catherine says she doesn’t normally cycle around with dead leaves dangling out her basket. Right.  We did wonder…

Check out the beautiful Hush AW12 collection at  Oh and, Hush… tell your stylist to get some decent wheels for your model next time.  That old bike has seen better days!

Summer press roundup…

August 7, 2012 in Bicycles, Press

From joyful Jubilations to London being paved, quite literally, with Team GB golds, what a “summer” (the inverted commas, of course being necessary, because the weather still absolutely sucks!) it has been.  These past few weeks have been just SO exciting!  So exciting in fact that whilst we’ve been revelling in the mega-highs of the fab British cycling team, and feeling the incredible surge of interest in cycling that is taking over Britain (way to go!), we’ve failed to thank some great journos for some great press BEG has had recently.

So… a big thanks go to CondeNast Traveller, Cambridge Journal, Country Homes and Interiors and the lovely and very beautiful Betty (surely one of the loveliest style mags around and check out that nice little illustration).  You all get our gold medal!

Cycling: It’s all about YOU!

Thank you Mail on Sunday YOU magazine for a summer-tastic feature!

OK Summer. You can come out now!  Yes you can…. No really…

Classically beautiful…

May 22, 2012 in Bicycle inspiration, Bike Candy, Cycling Accessories, Enjoy the ride, Press

…and for once we’re not talking about our bicycles!

The fabulous Laura Wright, classical soprano and classical music chart topper, is riding our very own Bella in this week’s Hello magazine (and our 100% lambswool picnic blanket makes an appearance too!).   We love Laura so this is all rather exciting!

Laura’s having an incredible year.  Having been top of the classical album charts in 2011 with her album The Last Rose, Laura became the first soprano to perform at the Olympic Stadium in March and has been selected to record the new Diamond Jubilee song, ‘Stronger As One’, which HM The Queen mentioned in her Commonwealth Day Message at Westminster Abbey in March where the song was premiered.   She’s also just sung at the FA Cup final – and at our favourite – The RHS Chelsea Flower Show.  Her  new album, ‘Glorious’, was released yesterday –  a unique collection of great British songs, old and new, which will celebrate and commemorate the Diamond Jubilee – where she will fly the flag for Britain!

Anyway, we think Laura looks just beautiful  - and Bella isn’t bad either!

Many thanks to the team at Hello, Laura Wright and our friend, Selina Lake.

Prima (Donna) Bicycles

May 4, 2012 in Bicycle inspiration, Bicycles, Enjoy the ride, Press

And here’s another one.

Because. Summer. Is. On. Its. Way.  Honestly.

(Thinking about it, just how empty and sad would British lives be if we couldn’t have the opportunity to make little witty sidelines about the weather.  Saying that, we’d get one heck of a lot more cycling days in, so the British weather, whilst it makes for character-building IS A BAD THING).

Thank you Prima magazine for such a great feature, and particularly to Selina Lake, the stylist.  Selina – we are undoubtedly on the same styling wavelength!  I’ve always had a bit a thing for peeling cricket pavillions.

Italian Bicycle B(Elle)

May 3, 2012 in Press, Reviews

A press round-up is long overdue, so here’s the first of some wonderful spring press to feature us recently.

First up, a great big thank you to Elle Italia magazine for thinking pink and featuring our Bella model in Persephone Pink in their 2012 May edition!

Bikeminded indeed….

March 30, 2012 in Bicycle inspiration, Enjoy the ride, Press, Sites we like...

We know the UK isn’t quite Amsterdam or Copenhagen yet, and that we have a long long way to go to be able to create the utopia of cycling that other countries enjoy – but inroads are being made.  There are leaders in this world – and then there are the followers… and in terms of forward-thinking, bicycle infrastructure-focused types, the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea in London is a pioneer in the UK.  It was with great pleasure that we hooked up with them recently and agreed to do some mutual introductions and we’re REALLY looking forward to interviewing them in the next few days and telling you more about the great work they are doing in their borough to make cycling a more accessible, desirable and safe option for their residents and commuters.

In the meantime, here is an interview Catherine did with them yesterday on their fantastic blog, Bikeminded about BEG….  You can read the full interview here.

Look out for our interview with Bikeminded coming next week…

10 GREAT reasons to cycle this Christmas

December 8, 2011 in Enjoy the ride, Joy Rides, Press

Phew! It’s been a bit of a week… Firstly, we’ve had a incredible photographer and stylist here this week taking very beautiful shots of our place, which sounds glam but has actually involved ‘magically’ making half our worldly goods disappear (ie shoved under every bed, into every cupboard, filling up the cellar to bursting… how we ever will find anything again is the worry du jour!) and a lot of masking tape.  The results are very spectacular but can’t be discussed further for some time… which is making me ache with impatience.

Then we were invited by the very nice people at British Cycling’s Sky Rides to be their first ever guest writer for their Christmas blog post, and this is what we wrote (ahem… sorry if you recognise the first bit from an earlier post.  There was a bit of judicious copying and pasting because…well… sometimes you just can’t rewrite something that turned out how you wanted it to be the first time and was still right the second time you wanted to say the same thing!  You still following…?).  You can read the whole article here.

By the way, this is a good time to say a bit more about Sky Rides.  Created by British Cycling, Sky Rides are a fabulous network of organised bike rides across Britain, open to all.  Read all about their fabulous regular events on their website, and for some great women-only rides, they have also created the Breeze network – all free, fun and guaranteed to get you hooked on cycling!

Ring my bell…

August 3, 2011 in Press

loudly… or shout it from the rooftops!

We’re thrilled to have been featured in some of our all-time favourite magazines this summer and we’ve even had whole features styled around Bella, Betty and the crew. Here’s a round up of some of the very nice things that have been written about BEG Bicycles in the British and international press. We are deeply touched and very grateful and a big thank you to all the journalists and stylists who have featured us to date. Even more to follow – we have press bikes out as we speak with two particularly gorgeous UK magazines!

Oh I do like to BEG beside the Seaside

May 17, 2011 in Bicycle inspiration, Bike Candy, Press, Town and Country Cycling

Sorry.  TERRIBLE title, but didn’t we have a lovely time, the day we went to… not Bangor but Broadstairs, and the equally lovely Whitstable, home of the famous Whitstable Oyster Festival.

We’re constantly being asked by the press – and our customers – for new pics of BEG Bicycles out and about ‘on location’ and because summer is nigh upon us, this seemed like a perfect excuse to get Bella out there, parading by the sea.  She certainly stole a few looks on the beach!

Full shoot final images to follow soon, but here are a few of our faves to get everyone in the summer cycling mood… and oh, those billowing nighties.   Blooming marvellous!
